Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Debuting at the grand opening of the fourth incarnation of the Quebec Skating Rink in 1878, the Quebec Bulldogs are noted historically as one of the first organized hockey clubs, and in the grand tradition of 19th century sporting endeavors, the Bulldogs were an amateur club for the majority of their existence. Members of the burgeoning NHA beginning in 1910-11, the Quebec hopefuls would be dazzled by the scoring exploits of The Phantom Joe Malone the following season, finishing first to claim both the O’Brien and Stanley Cups before trouncing Moncton in a two-game Stanley Cup challenge. Utterly rare, we have an original silver gelatin glass plate negative team photo of the 1911-12 Stanley Cup champion Quebec Bulldogs. At 3 ½” x 5 ½”, the negative is an image of a larger imperial or master photograph used to produce postcards. Legendary HOF members Paddy Moran, Joe Malone and big, bad Joe Hall are all visible, along with the Stanley Cup. We have never handled a photograph or postcard of this particular Bulldogs image.
The glass plate negative appears to be in excellent condition, with emulsion over the surface visible, with no unsightly scratches or damage present.
