Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
One of hockey’s most fabled clubs, the Renfrew Creamery Kings boasted a number of HOFers throughout their existence, including Cyclone Taylor, Sprague Cleghorn and Newsy Lalonde. We have a pair of antique Renfrew postcards from 1907, a season that witnessed the club crowned champions of the Ottawa Valley Hockey League (OVHL). Featuring Bert Lindsay, Billy Gilmour and Bobby Rowe, each card has handwritten text over the reverse. One example includes a collage of full body shots with the player’s name along the base, while the second postcard feature’s a more formal-setting team photo, with a 1910 postal stamp over both the front and reverse.
Both postcards exhibit heavy wear, with the postmarked example having rounded corners and creasing, along with a few small stains and an area of paper loss over the upper right reverse. The second postcard has heavy toning along with a few stains, with a crease over the listed player’s names.
