Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Seeking to capitalize on the success of the St Lawrence Starch Company’s Beehive hockey picture promotion, the Canada Starch Company responded with its set of similar thin-stock black and white sepia tone pictures (4 3/8” x 6 3/8”) affixed to larger, colourful card stock mounts (6 5/8” x 8 5/8”). The promotion would run from 1935 to 1940, with the set complete at 68. We offer a near set of 50, with each removed from their original mount, along with 19 doubles for a total of 69, with an original Crown Brand envelope that once housed the photos included (good condition). Just 6 players are missing (#62 Barry, #68 Boucher, #108 Blake, #111 Clancy, #114 MacKenzie and #121 Ward – Maroons), along with the team photos numbered #49, #50, #71, #72, #76, #106, #107, #151, #201, and the three unnumbered pictures. Six pictures have been affixed to Beehive mounts, including #57 Morenz (toning, surface wrinkles and a small red stain), #66 Bailey (light surface wear), #77 Evans, #81 McGill, #82 March and #112 Joliat (surface wear with glue residue and creasing). The majority of the pictures in the collection exhibit light to moderate wear, with each sporting expected glue residue over the upper reverse.
