Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra and fellow HOFers Phil Rizzuto and Johnny Mize are featured among the 25 members of the 1952 World Series champion New York Yankees who have autographed this team-signed baseball. Pitchers Allie Reynolds, Eddie Lopat, Vic Raschi and Johnny Sain are also among those who have signed along with the likes of Gil McDougald, Bobby Brown, Joe Collins, Ralph Houk and Billy Martin, whose game-saving catch in Game 7 protected New York’s 4-2 lead against Brooklyn to send the Yankees on to their fourth of a record five straight World Series titles from 1949-53. The black ink fountain pen autographs are mostly clearly legible with a nice Mantle example at the bottom of five signatures on one panel. Comes with a PSA/DNA LOA.
Lopat has signed on the sweet spot of one panel. The other panel’s sweet spot is unsigned. The baseball exhibits toning and there are a few scuffs on the panel signed by Mantle that do not touch his autograph, aside from a very thin diagonal white line through the N in his last name. The Mize example is faint but legible on the panel to the left of Lopat’s signature.
