The Sultan of Swat. The Bambino. The Big Bam. The Babe. By any name George Herman Ruth remains the most storied baseball player in the history of the game. An ace lefthanded pitcher with the Boston Red Sox, Babe’s batting feats were so prodigious that he became an outfielder to get his bat in the lineup every day. Sold to the New York Yankees in 1920, the rest, as they say, is history. Ruth hit 714 home runs, including an astounding 60 in 1927 when he and Lou Gehrig were at the heart of the Yankees’ Murderer’s Row lineup. “To Stephen Beach, From Babe Ruth” reads his black ink steel-tip fountain pen autograph on the south panel of this signed Reach Official American League baseball. With red and blue stitching, this wondrous nine-inch, five-ounce ball dates from 1927, when Ruth broke his own home run record and the Yankees swept aside the Pittsburgh Pirates in four games in the World Series. Comes with a JSA LOA.
There are a few scuffs well above Ruth’s signature that touch the beginning of Babe’s dedication. The baseball has some reddish-brown stains, one of which touches the bottom of the R in Ruth’s last name.
