Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015

It would be possible but difficult to assemble a nicer batch of Group 1 Bee Hive trophy photos with the dates on the back than the seven present here, with the three on blue backings (Allan Cup, Hart Trophy, Stanley Cup) considered near mint and the Byng Trophy and Memorial Cup pictures just a tad behind. A small light crease is to mention in the beige mats of the Calder, (upper left corner) and Vezina, (upper border), but again, quite impressive overall. A little more corner wear is visible on the backings of the trophies with blank backs, with some intermittent, not-too-detracting corner/peripheral creases. Like the dated pictures, they too look to be on original unaltered mats. A small stain in the photo itself of the Stanley Cup (diagonal script) variation is mentionable, but 15 scarce trophy pictures all in one place constitutes a splendid opportunity. Upping the appeal and completing the first-rate collection are pictures of radio personalities Foster Hewitt and Wes McKnight, the former on a suspect blue backing and the latter (crease-free photo on a VG+ beige mat) prodiving a good look at the man who first introduced the Canada Starch Company’s famous hockey picture offer on his radio show, as well as a superb EX-MT picture of the 1937 Memorial Cup champion Winnipeg Monarchs. With smooth edges and sharp corners, the just under 8” by 11” scarcity is a sensational way to end off a sensational Bee Hive extravaganza.
