Montreal Maroons Group 1 Bee Hives were available for a relatively short period of time, given that the team suspended operations following the 1937-38 season, and are thus scarce or extremely scarce and coveted to this day. An almost complete Maroons team set is offered in this group, with the scarcest photo, that of Gus Marker, available individually. Of the tougher pictures, Bill MacKenzie leads condition-wise with just light corner wear to the red backing and a small stain near the bottom edge. Max Kaminsky’s photo includes a couple of stains near the top of the picture itself which needs to be re-glued to an accompanying red mat that has two small lower corner creases. Jerry Carson and Dave Trottier photos were at some point re-glued to original red mats, evidenced by glue staining showing through the upper region, while photos of Bob Gracie and Jerry Shannon look to have been glued onto cream-colored replacement backings, the same holding true for the Baldy Northcott ensemble. There are two Paul Runge pictures, both with condition issues. One shows evidence of having been glued at the bottom corners (paper loss) and now is glued on a suspect backing, while the other photo has “49” typed to the lower left corner of the photo itself, also on an apparent replacement mat. Re-affixed to blue mats are photos of Bill Beveridge and Jimmy Ward, while now pasted to a red replacement mat is that of Earle Robinson. Less-flawed and completing are the pictures of Blinco (needs to be re-glued to its original mat), Cain, Connell (“60” in pencil on the reverse), Cook, Evans, Des Smith, Hooley Smith and Cy Wentworth. Precious pre-war collectibles!
