A mesmerizing photo of a young Maurice Richard at the beginning of his illustrious and record-setting career brilliantly leads this Montreal Canadiens portion of Group 1 Bee Hives. The all-original, unaltered Richard ensemble includes a beauty crease-free photo and a blue backing that has light corner wear and a barely noticeable and extremely small light crease in both the upper and lower left corners. You’ll be too captivated by Rocket’s image to notice them, along with the quarter-size blotch of light paper loss on the upper back of the blue mat. As for the rest, several scarce, coveted and valuable examples are led condition-wise by the Razzle Dazzle Line of Buddy O’Connor, Pete Morin and Gerry Heffernan, all on beige backings with minimal wear, and Leo Lamoureux, the latter on a similar blue mat. Bill Summerhill’s picture displays well despite light creasing and warping to the upper mat, with “B.S. – Left Wing” in pencil on the back. Pinholes in the red mat (top and bottom) of Terry Reardon’s picture are to mention, while the photos of George Allan Brown and Roger Jenkins are among a few re-glued on apparent replacement backings, the others being Joliat (creased photo, WOB, overall Poor), S. Mantha and Siebert. Meanwhile, Bouchard and Desilets photos are re-glued on original mats, with dime-size paper loss on the back of Lorraine. With all this said, there are more than two dozen others, predominantly on red backings, which fall into the “nice collectible” realm, with just light to moderate handling and wear and no real unsightly flaws. Blake, Lach, Lepine, Ken Reardon, goalies Bibeault, Bourque, Cude and Gardiner and others from Adams to Young – this is a Canadiens and Bee Hive lover’s delight! All confirmed Group 1 Canadiens photos are present in this lot except rarities picturing Barry, Drillon, Morenz, Robinson and Wentworth, all offered individually in other lots. Les Canadiens sont la!
