Several scarce Group 1 Bee Hives highlight this Black Hawks stash, with those listed in the title here leading the way and all listed in the three figures in price guides – a nice start! In general, condition is what the majority of Bee Hive collectors seek or are willing to accept; light to moderate handling and wear with no real unsightly or grimace-provoking flaws. An intermittent crease or two is spotted in the backings, with a few additional condition issues to be aware of. Rippling along the top edge of the Glenn Brydson photo suggests re-gluing, with additional light creases/bends and evidence of the bottom edge having once been glued, while a nickel-size blotch of paper loss on the back of the Joe Papike beige (VG) backing is all that additionally affects the more scarce photos. Re-glued on apparent replacement backings are photos of Dahlstrom, Gottselig and Karakas, with 1” by 2” areas of paper loss on the backs of the Chad and Cunningham mats. A six-digit inventory number is on the back of Pete Palangio’s beige mat, but all others are free of any writing. All confirmed Chicago Group 1 photos, with the exception of the rare Dave MacKay picture, (offered individually in another lot), are included here, with those of Doug and Max Bentley (actually, Doug is pictured on both!), goalies Lorne Chabot, Paul Goodman and Sam LoPresti, Doc Romnes, Earl Seibert and others adding up to 33 terrific vintage collectibles.
