Listed in the Group 1 Bee Hive section of the Charlton Standard Catalogue, this oversized team photo of the 1944-45 Toronto Maple Leafs is said to have actually introduced the Group 2 pictures and has been on the wantlists of numerous Bee Hive collectors for years. The blue backing was at one-time trimmed and measures just over 12” by 8-3/8”, while those pictured captured Lord Stanley’s silverware in the spring of 1945. Included are rookie playoff herog Frank McCool, (three straight shutouts in the Cup finals!), a young Ted Kennedy, Sweeney Schriner, Babe Pratt, Lorne Carr, Gus Bodnar and coach Hap Day. A few approximately one-inch creases are spotted in the upper section of the picture but no unsightly flaws affect the players’ images – this example displays rather well, with a few light creases/bends to the blue mat. From a championship season!
