Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
The World Ice Hockey Championships was held in Vienna, Austria from March 18 to March 29, 1967. For the fifth straight year, the Soviet Union took gold in the tournament, winning all their games to claim their seventh World championship, and eleventh European. The competition for the other medals was very close, with Sweden, Canada, and Czechoslovakia all being in contention until the end. A classic design of a goaltender minding his net graces the obverse of this gold-toned medal and this is ringed by the words Championnat du Monde, World Championships with 1967 engraved onto a plate below. The reverse shows the IIHF logo with International Ice Hockey Federation in English and French. This one comes from the collection of Hockey Hall-of-Famer Fred Page, who served as the Vice President of the IIHF from 1969 to 1972. The medal is in near mint and measures 60mm across.
