Netminder Phil Osaer saw action in the AHL over 21 tilts in 2003-04 and answered the call up to the big league Rangers for a single game in 2003 against the Ottawa Senators. This custom molded mask was made By Eddy for Phil Osaer and features a custom paint design with a top-of-the-hat to the United States of America with their flag and eagle motif. Worn first with the AHL Worchester Ice Cats in 2002-03, it also saw use the following season with the Wolfpack and Rangers. Fully hand-painted back plate is there and the mask comes complete with all interior padding and straps. This well-worn photo-matched mask was recently voted one of the top New York Rangers mask designs of all time!
Originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues, Phil Osaer began the 2003-04 season without a team or contract. The New York Rangers originally signed him to a 25-day tryout contract with their AHL team in Hartford but injuries opened the doors to an even bigger opportunity. With Dan Blackburn down during the off season the Rangers started the year with Mike Dunham and Jussi Markanen in net. Dunham soon succumb to injury and was then followed by his replacement, Jason Labarbera. Needing a backup for Markanen, Phil Osaer was recalled from Hartford and signed to an NHL contract. Phil saw his only NHL game that night and Mike Dunham was able to rejoin the team for the following contest.
