Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015

Thanks to the participation of the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Igor Larionov and Slava Fetisov, Rendez-Vous ’87 goes down in history as the best alternative NHL All-Star Game format ever. The Great One was at the height of his immensely talented powers for the showdown in Quebec City during the 1986-87 season. Foregoing the typical All-Star format, the two-game series at le Colisee pitted the best players in the NHL against the powerhouse Soviet national team. Gretz took tournament MVP honors with four assists as the two great teams split the series, with the NHL All-Stars taking the opener 4-3 on February 11, and the Soviets winning 5-3 in the rematch two days later. The magnificent Rendez-Vous 87 patch is sewn on the right sleeve of this Gretzky NHL All-Stars vintage pro jersey done up just like the one worn by the Great One himself in Quebec City. CCM logos are embroidered on either side of the rear hem, which has a Velcro strip sewn on the right inner hem. Pro lettering and numbering here includes the captain’s C sewn on the left breast in black tackle twill, orange and black double twill numbers on the back and left sleeve, surname letters on the nameplate, and NHL crest on the front, with two black twill stars above it and six black twill stars across the shoulders. No tagging in the neck, it measures out to a size 54 and has a full fight strap. Beautifully preserved pro jersey from back in the day with a tiny, light yellowish spot stain on the white air-knit fabric on the back between the opening of the right number 9. A great Gretzky vintage pro jersey that conjures up memories of an amazing international showdown.
