Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Great lot that includes 29 Habs postcard from the late-1950s ( 2 from the 1960s), all signed by each particular player, from the likes of Harvey, Plante, Richard, Beliveau (signed on both sides), Geoffrion (2 different), Moore (2 different), and all the gang from those heady years when a Canadiens Stanley Cup parade was almost a foregone conclusion. Joining these are unsigned cards from Maurice Richard/Dow Brewery, Claude Provost/O’Keefe, and 2 others, plus a Habs inaugural 1960 media guide, and a classic Molson/Habs team photo from 1957-58. In excellent condition, it’s a great lot with some serious signatures.
Further to the signed postcards, all are in clear ballpoint pen, although Plante’s is in slightly pale but perfectly legible handwriting, and along with the aforementioned names, also includes Henri Richard, Turner, St. Laurent, Pronovost, Marshall (2 different), Langlois, Goyette, Bonin, McDonald, Cushenan (“Best wishes Judy”), Hodge, Johnson (2 different), Hicke, Talbot, Backstrom (2 different), and Olmstead. Geoffrion has also written on the back of one of his as “Thank you for the letter”, Boom Boom, and the 2 signed cards from the early-1960s are from Bobby Rousseau and Jean-Guy Gendron. Another Plante card comes unsigned, as does a Floyd Curry example. Of the 29 signed cards, all, except for Beliveau’s which was produced later in color, are black and white. The 88-page 1960 media guide, the first year of the Canadiens annual guide run, remains in complete, intact, and unmarked condition, and also included in this cool lot is a 5” x 7” Bill Brewley 1950s Montreal Alouettes picture, signed by Brewley, showing some small paper flaws.
