Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015

HOF referee Andy Van Hellemond was wearing this 1987 Stanley Cup Finals game-worn NHL referee’s jersey when he called Game 7 between Wayne Gretzky’s Edmonton Oilers and the Philadelphia Flyers. Gretzky hoisted the Cup that night as the Oilers won for the third time in four seasons. Van Hellemond refereed 1,557 NHL regular season games and 227 more in the playoffs, and he called 20 Stanley Cup finals. The embroidered NHL shield crest is sewn on the left breast and a size 46 flag tag hangs down from the “Professionally Crafted Bruce Hood Referee Jersey by the Tease Knitting Co. Inc.” manufacturer’s tagging in the back of the zipper-front collar. Wonderfully preserved, it comes with an LOA from Rick Elaschuk, the Oilers’ longtime trainer.
Surname is spelled out in sewn-on white twill letters on two nameplates on the back.
