Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Extremely rare 1972 Summit Series game puck came from the hand of Charles Hay, one of the organizers of the Canada-Russia series and a member of the HOF’s Builders category. Our consignor obtained this scarce treasure from a friend who attended Game 2 at Maple Leaf Gardens as a houseguest of Hay, who gifted the puck, one of only 50 or so that were made for use in one of the first four games played in Canada. A rubber-crested Hockey Canada logo appears on the front of this Biltrite B1 slug - the company's trademark "Made in Canada" in tiny raised letters on the otherwise blank reverse. Wonderfully preserved, this is a true rarity and it may be a considerable length of time before another chance like this comes along.
The 42-year-old Hockey Canada logo on the face has very light crazing. Included with this amazing puck are three original copies of the Toronto Sun, including the Saturday, September 2 Extra Special Team Canada issue, and the Monday, September 4 and Tuesday, September 5 editions of the tabloid.
