Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015

The Great One’s Topps rookie card highlights this special hobby happening; the auctioning of two uncut blank-back proof sheets from 1979-80 when Wayne Gretzky burst onto the NHL scene. Wayne’s famous and forever popular #18 rookie card image is positioned in the upper right region of one 66-card sheet, with those of HOFers Marcel Dionne and Jean Ratelle among the eight surrounding it, while the other sheet is highlighted by Gordie Howe’s picture almost smack dab in the middle, with Bobby Hull, the team cards and “specials” featuring Lafleur and Dryden three times each also swell to check out. Proof sheets are made by the engraver and show what the product will look like when it is printed. Topps staffers used them to check color and registration. A Topps Vault COA accompanies the Gretzky sheet, with both 23” by 28” displays appearing crease-free and near mint.
