Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Premium hockey pictures from the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s are up for grabs here with four oversized cards
(6-1/4” x 7-3/8”) offered by Quaker Oats in 1938-39 featuring the images of Maple Leafs Turk Broda, Bob Davidson, Bingo Kampman and Pep Kelly on thin cardboard stock. The Broda (F) has multiple creases while the others are in the collectible VG neighborhood. Crown Brand photos (1935-40) on their original beige mats total 36 and include the likes of Aurele Joliat, Toe Blake, Babe Siebert, Marty Barry, Ace Bailey, Frank Boucher, Roy Worters, Dave Kerr, Alex Levinsky, Marty Burke, Mush March and others, including 14 Canadiens and ten Montreal Maroons. Majority are in nice collectible VG-EX condition with no unsightly re-glued jobs present. We spot four, including Worters, with a two-digit number penned in the upper right corner of the photo itself. A creased picture of Howie Morenz, glued to a makeshift backing, is a swell bonus, as is a big flowing autograph penned by Joliat to an approximately 4-1/2” by 5” sheet, with the legend adding “Les Canadiens – (1922-1938)” below. Completing the lot and also intriguing are four Quaker Oats action shots featuring the Maple Leafs and Canadiens, (Series A, No. 1 to 4), and in VG condition with no tears, writing or holes, along with two different individual images of Maurice Richard and one of Hal Laycoe. The Rocket pictures are EX, with Laycoe at VG. Some interesting possibilities with this dandy vintage stash.
