Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Pittsburgh Penguins players wore “Katrina Relief Fund” patches on the breast of their jerseys during the first period of their home opener on Oct. 8th, 2005 against the visiting Boston Bruins, and from that night is goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury’s game-issued Pens “Katrina” jersey (Fleury didn’t start that night). Tagged in the collar with 2 flaps – “Goalie-Style” with #29 handwritten on, and another showing it to be a size “58”, this Fleury jersey includes a team patch on the inside hem listing it as a "Katrina" jersey, with a facsimile signature from the team’s equipment manager.
These jerseys, from the game that saw Boston win 7-6 in overtime, were sold at auction by the NHL and NHLPA, with all proceeds going to support those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Fleury's example is in excellent condition with only a few faint marks on the left sleeve to note.
