Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Deceased HOFer Terry Sawchuk is among the 19 autographs on Gordie Howe’s team-signed 1963-64 Red Wings game-used stick that retains his original tape jobs on the knob and blade. Mr. Hockey himself has signed twice, including a modern blue marker autograph low on the side of the shaft opposite the vintage Red Wings ballpoint signatures, which are faint but clearly legible. Howe has signed low on the shaft along with fellow HOFers Delvecchio, Sawchuk and Ullman, with HOFers Gadsby, Marcel Pronovost and coach Sid Abel further up between the “Northland Pro” and “ Olympic Sporting Goods Co.” stamps. “Howe” is stamped on the shaft and his number “9” is written in black marker.
The stick is also signed by the likes of MacDonald, Barkley, Andre Pronovost, Joyal, Ingram and trainer Lefty Wilson. Game wear shows in black marks low on the bottom of the shaft just above the heel. The top front edge has a split in the wood above the Northland Pro stamp that does not diminish the stick’s display.
