Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Quite a night at New York's MSG on April 18, 1999 when the one and only Wayne Gretzky hung up his skates for the last time after recording an assist in his Rangers tilt against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. We’ve got 3 display pieces from that night, all signed by Wayne, and include a framed 24” x 29 1/2” pic of him hanging up his skate, signed in bold black marker; a 30” x 36” framed montage signed in bold blue marker; and a limited-edition and as low as can be “1/199” framed photo (32 1/2” x 35”) of Wayne and his applauding teammates at the end of the game, signed in bold blue marker. Incredible 3-piece display showcasing the night it all ended.
The framed and matted photo of Wayne hanging up his skates includes a WGA hologram on the bottom right corner, next to a handwritten “WGA 5”. Ranger pinbacks and a plaque are embedded, and only a few dings in the frame keep this from being immaculate. The 4-photo framed montage also includes an embedded plaque “I will miss every part of the game because I loved every part of the game”, and comes with a COA from Wayne Gretzky Authentic (WGA). With only 1 small nick in the frame, it’s gorgeous in every way. And lastly, the framed “Wayne and his teammates” display in excellent condition also comes with a WGA COA and hologram, with a handwritten “1/199” next to the hologram. You’ll never forget this “night to remember" with this trio of beauties.
