Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
It seemed almost unfair to fans of other teams that a team such as the 1980s Edmonton Oilers would not only have Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri and the likes up front, but also have Paul Coffey on the blueline, who could skate as well or better than most forwards and provide a dimension rarely seen since Bobby Orr. We’ve got one of Coffey’s game-used sticks from those heady Oilers 1980s days, a Sher-Wood featuring original white tape on the blade and black on the knob, with “Coffey 77” stamped on the upper part of the shaft, along with a handwritten “S” nearby. And although the date is stamped near the heel, it’s impossible to read because of the fibreglass on top. With marks lining the blade tape and along the shaft, it’s a great gamer from the innovative, freewheeling defenceman who would be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004.
