Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/17/2014
The nicest Paulin's card of Albert "Red" McCusker that PSA has ever encapsulated is offered here, with a dandy image of the Regina Capitols' goaltender on the front and a Paulin Chambers Company stamp on the reverse. Full sets of cards could be redeemed for a prize, with redeemed cards either being stamped or having a hole punched in them. Of all three varieties submitted to PSA, (cards not redeemed also exist), this NM 7 example blows away the competition, with two 4.5s the next highest out of the 17 others slabbed by PSA. This Red is #1 of all-time - sweet! Although the Paulin’s cards have always been catalogued as a 1923-24 issue, extensive research by hobby veteran and author Bobby Burrell points to a two-year promotion beginning a year later, thus giving a 1924-26 time frame for the cards which feature men who played for teams in the Western Canadian Hockey League.
