Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

Mere words can't possibly do enough justice to this magnificent driver's suit worn by the legendary Mario Andretti in 1984, a year the great man won the pole for nine of sixteen events and claimed his fourth IndyCar title along the way. Mr. Andretti was also United States Driver of the Year in 1984 as well. This red driver's suit, which has three different warning labels sewn on the collar, is signed by Andretti in black marker, just above the Budweiser lettering on the front, with sponsors such as Valvoline, Good Year and others lining the front and back. "Mario Andretti" is embroidered on a patch on the right breast, and no holes or any issues to the condition exist, aside from dirt which lines the cuffs and is noticeable on the white areas. As a capper, we've photo-matched this race-worn and historic suit, worn by the man named Driver of the Century by Associated Press and RACER magazine, and is a member of the International Motorsports HOF, National Sprint Car HOF, Motorsports HOF of America, and the Hoosier Auto Racing HOF. Simply breathtaking. To be more specific about the photo-matching, we’ve matched this suit to the placement of the Valvoline patch over the Budweiser shoulder patch, placement of the Simpson patch sewn slightly over the Andretti name patch, uneven space between the Good Year and PPG patches, and uneven space between the PPG patch and the white part of the suit.
