Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Firstly, a wonderfully-crafted solid bronze medal presented to a member of the third place squad at the World Championships Qualifying Group No. 2 tournament, according to raised verbiage on the verso. The sculpted medal, depicting a vintage goaltender on the front, displays the date (1974) and the title World Championships in French and English. The other side is engraved with International Ice Hockey Federation, again, in both languages. In 1974, Group 2 included such countries as Austria, Germany and Japan. A weighty medal, measuring about 2.5 inches in diameter. Also included is a similarly-sized bronze medal, complete with presentation ribbon, from the 2003 Division II Group Two World Championships held in Sofia, Bulgaria. Bulgaria took the bronze this year and these more recent awards are very difficult to obtain. The medal is in near excellent shape with some wear at the edges but the ribbon is stained and worn.
