Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Great old pair of CCM Tacks worn by HOFer Harry Howell (inducted 1979), with a wonderful provenance from Don “Bones” Raleigh, who played 10 seasons for the New York Rangers in the ‘40s and ‘50s, and who writes that he was invited to a Rangers Alumni party in the 1990s and brought his own skates which proved to be too tight. After mentioning the problem to Rangers staff, he was given an old pair of Howell’s skates which fit perfectly. “Bones” details this story on a small La Quinta hotel slip of paper, which is included with the skates. These CCM Tacks feature Howell’s number “3” on the heel of each boot, and show terrific game use with scuffing and nicks throughout. Howell would enjoy 17 outstanding seasons in New York before moving on to the West Coast for several seasons and then to the WHA for another 3 campaigns.
