Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Barney Holden, who scored the first goal, in the first game, of the very first professional hockey league game on December 9, 1904 in the Pittsburgh Duquesne Gardens is pictured here in his Shamrock uniform and his #4 RC card has received EX-MT 6 status from PSA. The Winnipegger played for Portage Lake from 1904-1907, teammate of Cyclone Taylor and Bad Joe Hall, as they won three championships together in the International Hockey League, Holden was three times an all-star in that league. He played for the Stanley Cup three times over his career, was in the NHA with Quebec for two seasons and was an all-star again in 1912 in the SPHL. The PSA population reports indicates that out of 68 total submissions over the years, seven received "6s", a mark bettered by only one other at 7.
