Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Truly wonderful pair of framed team pictures from ninety-plus years ago, featuring the St. John’s Midget Team (Manitoba) of 1919-20 and the St. John’s College Senior Intercollegiate Champs of 1923-24. These two grand old pictures, each measuring 12 ½” x 14 ½” in their frames, have been preserved in outstanding condition with no tears and only some aging to note, with “W.W. Robson Photo Winnipeg” marked in the bottom corner of each. Among the youngsters in the 1919-20 Midget squad is none other than Murray Murdoch (spelled with a "k"), who would be about 15 at the time of this photo, and whom would one day suit up for 508 games with the New York Rangers, collect 2 Stanley Cups (1928 & 1933), and be awarded the Lester Patrick Trophy for his contributions to U.S. hockey for his head coaching years at Yale. From the 1923-24 St. John’s College team we see Andy Blair, born in 1908, making him also about 15 or 16 at the time. Blair joined the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1928-29 and was with the blue and white until the 1935-36 campaign, after which he would spend one final season with the Chicago Black Hawks.
