Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Amazing find from the man considered the originator of pro hockey stats, James Hendy. Hendy, who would be inducted into the Builders category of the HOF in 1968, began publishing annual Hockey Guide stats books in the 1930s and carried on until 1951. How cool is it that we're offering Mr. Hendy's personal guide books from 1935 and 1939, with both copies signed in clear blue ink by the HOFer as "Personal Copy of James C. Hendy"! Hendy would eventually hand over the stats reins to the NHL and he carried on in different levels of hockey which included front office stints with the New York Rangers and AHL Cleveland Barons. The 1935 book, measuring 5” x 7”, is completely intact with 96 pages and features a generic image of Charlie Conacher on the cover, with the book having some worn edges but remaining in nice overall condition. The 1939 book measures 3 ½” x 5 ½”, is also completely intact with 144 pages and with the cover showing a hockey player illustration. This personal book of Hendy’s remains in nice condition with a slight stain on the back cover that makes it way into the bottom of some back pages.
