Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
We love vintage sports clothing, and this 1920s heavy wool navy sweater from the Taft School hockey team in Connecticut is a beauty to be sure. Manufactured by the W.H. Brine Company (with the Brine tag on the inside hem), this sweater that measures 24" from collar to hem has a small hanging tag in the collar, while the front displays the white felt "T" bookended by "H-T" (hockey team). A small area of the collar is frayed, with 2 small holes on the left shoulder, another on the left sleeve, with the odd wool snag here and there to mention. All in all a nicely preserved heavy sweater nearly 100 years old. W.H. Brine was Taft School’s official outfitter during 1920s-1930s, according to the school yearbooks. The Taft School, founded by Horace Dutton Taft in 1890, is a private, coeducational prep school located in Watertown, Connecticut, USA, similar to St. Paul’s School, attended by Hobey Baker at the turn of the century. It was the first school in New England to have an indoor artificial rink, in 1950, and boasts Montreal Canadiens star Max Pacioretty as a former student.
