Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

From 1979, the final year of the WHA when 4 teams from the renegade league, including the Edmonton Oilers, would merge with the NHL, is a WHA Oilers game-worn jersey worn by goaltender Ed Mio. Tagged in the collar as a "Rawlings 50", this WHA Oilers gamer features a nice team repair on the front, as well as substantial puckering on the team crest and numbers. A small number of marks are scattered about, and we see a couple of small unrepaired holes on the back. Sewn on the inside hem is a "Steichens Sports Equipment" patch, and only the loop from the fight strap remains. The puckered numbers are of double tackle twill, but Mio's name on the nameplate has been screened on. This gamer is photo-matched to specifics on the back numbers - the varying spaces of the white on the 3, plus some distinct puckering folding marks. Mio donned this jersey with the WHA Oilers before strapping on the pads for a 192-game NHL career with Edmonton, New York, and Detroit.
