The 60s were a decade of delight for Toronto Maple Leafs fans, as their beloved boys hoisted Lord Stanley’s hardware no less than 4 times in the 10-year span. These were heady times indeed, as the Buds were stacked with household names like Mahovlich, Keon, Bower and Pulford, and the team was a perennial force to be reckoned with. We have 30 Gardens regular season programs from these times, including 1 from the ’61-’62 campaign, 12 from ’62-’63, another 5 from the ’63-’64 season, 4 from ’64-’65, 1 from the ’65-’66 season, 3 from ’66-’67, another 3 from ’67-’68, 1 from the ’68-’69 season, plus a semifinals game 4 program from ’64-’65 and quarterfinal program from ’71-’72. Relive a glorious time in Leaf history, and the ads are fun too!
Condition-wise sees the ’62-’63 batch as best, with 10 showing only the odd faint crease and otherwise looking quite nice and overall in VG/EX condition. Two others have some issues, with one suffering some water damage and another having some loose pages and no lineup. A slew of iconic figures grace the covers, such as Bob Baun, Bob Nevin, Eddie Shack, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Allan Stanley and more. The lone 1961-62 issue from Feb. 17 when the Rangers were in town has some pencil markings inside, some cover creases, and water damage. Four of the five ’61-’62 issues are also in fair shape with touches of aging and water damage, while another, from Nov. 9, ’63 when the Hawks were in town, shows some loose pages and a bit of rough condition. The 3 from the historic ’66-’67 season have some water damage issues along the spine, on the cover, and on the inside pages. The 3 programs from the ’67-’68 season have water damage issues, and one, from Jan. 24 when the brand new Philadelphia Flyers were the visitors, has the lineup page loose, some pencil writing on the page, and although water damage is more than evident on the cover and throughout, the program is still completely readable, as are the others. The Habs came to town on March 26, 1969, and the Gardens program shows some cover stains, a loose section of pages, and some water damage, while a 1971-72 playoff quarter-final between the Bruins and Leafs is in nice shape aside from a small amount of ink handwriting on the lineup page. To note are the 4 programs from the ’64-’65 season which show poor condition, particularly the covers, but all are perfectly readable.
