Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
The grand old Chicago Stadium, "The Madhouse on Madison", with an earth-shaking pipe organ and 18,000 boisterous fans cheering on as The Golden Jet, Michael Jordan, and countless entertainers strutted their stuff. From the classic old Stadium, built in 1929, we have a vintage round clock that once adorned a wall there, measuring 18" in diameter made from metal with a glass face. This old electric relic has been converted to a battery-operated clock now, and all in all is in nice condition with some paint flaking on the metal and a few stains on the face. We also have a July 8, 1929 Chicago Daily News 2-page advertisement for the Chicago Stadium which had just opened in March of that year, measuring 21 1/2" x 33", in excellent condition with some slight tears to a few small areas of the edges. Both items would look magnificent displayed. The 2-page ad features photos and captions of the movers and shakers responsible for the building of the great building, with a nice photo of the famous Barton pipe organ that shook windows. It’s obvious from reading this huge ad that the builders were proud of their accomplishment and Chicagoans were in for a mightly fine place to be entertained.
