Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

Scarce, and up to now, unknown example of a Rochester Americans inaugural season white jersey from the American Hockey League team's 1956-57 debut campaign. This rare Amerks white jersey is from the collection of Gord Hannigan, who was Rochester's captain and wore number 12. Bronco Horvath and Mike Nikoluk both wore #18 for the Americans during Rochester's first AHL season when the team was renowned for its patriotic red, white and blue uniforms that resembled the American flag. This cream-colored Amerks jersey has the team name spelled out in white twill letters sewn over the big red twill "R" sewn across the blue band on the front, a style that was only used during the Americans' inaugural season. There are 18 red twill stars sewn on the upper front, shoulders and upper back, with one mostly covered by the "8" in the sewn-on red twill numbers on the back. Though they do not diminish this rare and historic AHL Amerks treasure, there are a number of holes throughout the jersey, including a huge one on the right sleeve which has a couple of other holes, a few more on the left sleeve, and small holes on the back and front. It is unknown if this jersey was actually worn in games but it is surely an Americans jersey from the team's inaugural season. Comes with an LOA from the Hannigan family.
