Absolutely fantastic 1950s Toronto Maple Leafs game-worn wool sweater is from the collection of the late Gord Hannigan. As a Leafs rookie in 1952-53, Hannigan scored 17 goals and 18 assists for 35 points, good for third on the team behind Ted Kennedy and Sid Smith, who led with 39. Hannigan played parts of the next three seasons with the Leafs though he did not wear #20, which was worn by a number of Leafs during the early- to mid-1950s, including the late Tim Horton and fellow HOFers George Armstrong and Bob Pulford, all teammates of Hannigan's. This classic Toronto Maple Leafs white jersey displays a number of team repairs. A spectacular blue felt Maple Leafs crest on the front displays sewn-on white felt letters and white thread stitching. Number 20 on the back is sewn-on blue felt with old school zig-zag stitching in the middle of the numbers. Amazing! Doug Laurie Sports Maple Leaf Gardens tagging remains perfectly in place sewn into the back of the neck. Team repairs include sewing fixes under both arms, a pair on the right sleeve and another on the left sleeve, as well as three more on the rear tail. There are a few light reddish-brown stains on the right front above the Leafs crest, soiling/sweat stains on the left front near the bottom of the repaired sleeve seam, and a faint red mark on the left rear tail at the hip. Holes on the sleeves and front and rear tails, as well as a small one at the top of the left breast, do not diminish the display of this incredible Maple Leafs game-worn wool treasure. Comes with an LOA from the Hannigan family. Cahan, Burega, Chadwick, Hassard and Mathers are among the other Maple Leafs who wore #20 during the early- to mid-1950s.
