Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

The New York Islanders certainly weren't satisfied with winning just one Stanley Cup. They needed another, and in the spring of 1981, they did just that. What a team this was, led by the likes of Mike Bossy, Brian Trottier, Clark Gillies, Denis Potvin, and of course the all-important two-way centreman Butch Goring, a man who would contribute 10 goals and ten assists during their Cup march, including two game-winners, and in the end, after he and his teammates had captured their second straight Stanley Cup, Goring would be recognized for his amazing playoff effort and awarded the esteemed Conn Smythe Trophy for his contributions. Offered is Goring's magnificent 1981 Stanley Cup ring, with two real diamonds set tastefully on a blue background, encircled by "1981 Stanley Cup Champions". One shank of this size 9 bauble features a raised image of hockey's biggest prize, with the NHL shield in the background and inscribed "NHL League Champions" below, while the other shank shows the Islanders logo in red, white, and blue, and includes "Goring" above the logo and "91" below. The interior has a stamped "Balfour", the designer of this awe-inspiring keepsake, along with the mostly-erased 10K marking. The ring, weighing about 31 grams, shows evidence of being worn over the years with tiny nicks and scratching, but is in overall great condition. A truly wonderful and all-important ring from Goring and the Islanders' second of four straight Stanley Cups, complete with an LOA from Butch Goring.
