Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2013

Gloriously golden Los Angeles Kings gamer was worn by Hall of Fame forward Dick Duff during the 1969-70 season. A six-time Stanley Cup champion with Toronto and Montreal, Duff was dealt by the Habs to the Kings for Dennis Hextall on January 23, 1970. He contributed five goals and 13 points in 34 games with L.A. through the end of the season. The two black marks on the upper front of this jersey, near the crest and left shoulder, clearly show in an action photo of Duff playing for the Kings in Toronto on his bio page inside the December 12, 1970 edition of the Maple Leaf Gardens program included here. The photo is also matched to the loose white thread on the "0" of the number 20 sewn on the right sleeve in purple and white double twill. There is a small team repair at the top of the team crest sewn on the front and Rawlings size 48 and laundry instruction tagging are sewn inside the rear left hem. A photo on the following page of the program, with Duff pictured in action from behind, shows that the “2” on the back is slightly larger than the “0” which is also evident on the jersey itself. Other jersey characteristics that match up to the photos include the sleeve number placement, as well as that of the purple band around the tails. More game wear shows in black marks below the crest on the front and more marks on the shoulders and sleeves, with good wear inside the sleeves. There is a small hole at the top right of the “0” sewn on the right sleeve, another on the back of the left elbow, and an unrepaired vertical hole through the top of the purple band on the right front tail.
