Captivating reading and an outstanding signature of Jack Johnson, the first African-American to claim the world heavyweight boxing championship, await the astute winner of this stirring piece. In his documentary on Johnson, Ken Burns states: "For more than 13 years, Jack Johnson was the most famous and the most notorious African-American on Earth." The back cover of the 1927 first edition of "Jack Johnson - In The Ring - And Out" boasts "The Most Amazing Story Ever Told" and "A true story that's more thrilling than fiction - more exciting than a novel." Man, we wish we had time to read it! Meanwhile, the page following the title page is where the former heavyweight champ (1908-1915) penned a big, bold, flowing autograph in black fountain pen, with "Dedicated to the Memory of My Mother" nearby - wow! Hardcover 256-page book has a worn and torn dust jacket, along with pen scribbles on two pages and the inside back cover but nothing to deter one from bidding on the delectable discovery. Johnson died in 1946 and was inducted posthumously into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1954. Please note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
