Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
A baseball autograph enthusiast or a dealer who knows some will be intrigued by this wonderful stash, featuring first-rate signatures of former major leaguers, some of whom played as far back as the 1920s. The collection, mostly spanning the '20s to the '60s, features very few sigs on the lined side of 3x5 cards or personalized jobs, with ballpoint autographs dominating, but other pen types also appearing. Included are the likes of Lefty Grove, Edd Roush, Waite Hoyt, Bill Terry (2), Joe(s) Wood, Medwick and McCarthy, Dom Dimaggio, Carey, Shawkey, Hubbell, Greenberg, Mize, Averill, Snider, Musial, Gehringer, Slaughter and the list goes on...on our website! Other notables include Appling, Sparky Anderson, Aparicio, Bauer, Bouton, Branca, Bunning, Burdette, Dark, Dickey (personalized), Doerr, Face, Fain, Feller, Fidrych, Fingers, Gibson, Grimes, Groat, Heinrich, Babe Herman, Holmes, Houk, Jenkins, Kell, Kiner, Labine, Lemon, Lopat, Gil McDougall (6), Marichal, Mazeroski, Pesky, Reese, Richardson (8), Brooks and Frank Robinson, Rosen, Sain, Sauer, Schoendiest, Shantz, Skowren (7), Ralph Terry, Bobby Thompson, Bill White, Woodling and Zimmer. Some duplication is to note, (that’s a good thing!), with multiples of Negro Leaguers Herman “Doc” Horn (20), Ernest Johnson (8) and Charles Johnson (3), along with singles of Judy and Don Johnson also to note. Hundreds of others signatures too numerous to list will yield dozens and dozens of pleasant surprises. Almost all cards are protected in clear envelopes which are, for the most part, identified. Years in the making, this fantastic hoard offers several interesting possibilities.
