Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Long-time Washington Senators outfielder Sam Rice, (HOF 1963, d.1974), the major leaguer with the most hits not in the 3,000-hit club, (2,987), nicely autographed two real photo postcards and a 1960 Fleer trading card in blue ballpoint, with Luke Appling (HOF 1964, d.1991) and Bob Lemon (HOF 1976, d.2000) signing four and seven pieces respectively. For 20 years a shortstop with the White Sox, Appling personalized two of three JD McCarthy manager/coach postcards, with a 1970s TCMA postcard picturing him in his playing days. A seven-time 20-game winner with the Indians, Lemon's perfect signature is on a vintage RPPC, two exhibit cards, a yellow Hall of Fame postcard, a blurry vintage 8" by 10" and an index card. A nifty finale is a 1955 two-page document authorizing the Gillette Safety Razor Company to use Lemon's name, photo, etc. in ads and signed "Robert G. Lemon."
