Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
An incredibly riveting image of the man who would soon break the Major League Baseball colour barrier is possible in various sizes with this negative of Jackie Robinson in his Montreal Royals uniform. Both the Royals and parent Brooklyn Dodgers held spring training in Havana, Cuba in 1947 and we believe this is when the camera was clicked. At the start of camp, it was reportedly still not clear whether the Dodgers or organized baseball would allow Robinson the chance to play in the big leagues, but on April 10, 1946 the Dodgers purchased Jackie's contract from Montreal. Negative measures approx. 2-1/4 by 3-1/4" and will come with a recent print and LOA. The look of the trailblazer and the uniform are spellbinding.
