Say Hey, Dick Perez! This original Willie Mays watercolor on board was painted by the renowned sports artist. Perez has signed under his four-frame illustration of "The Catch", the Say Hey Kid's unbelievable over-the-shoulder robbery of Cleveland's Vic Wertz in the 1954 World Series. Willie is colorfully portrayed in the center of the painting in full concentration in his San Francisco Giants road uniform as he awaits a pitch that he aims to punish. An inset on the right side is a likeness of Willie at the outset of his career in New York, while the one on the left displays the Hall of Fame center fielder as a veteran perennial all-star. This spectacular Willie Mays painting displays to a size of 19 1/2" x 24 3/4" in a beige matte that is recessed within a lighter beige matte with an inner wood frame border. It is displayed open, mounted in a 30 1/2" x 34 1/4" wood frame. To note are a few surface scratches not readily apparent without a closer look and a few gouges and tears on the inner matte. Comes with the Perez-Steele Galleries invoice dated from November 1980. Very light scratch marks are located through the bill of Mays’ batting helmet and across the black and orange bands of his right sleeve in the main image, in the bottom right corner of the border of the illustration of “The Catch”, and on the right side to the right of the Mays New York Giants inset.
