Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
A total of 100 pictures are featured in this collection of color negatives of photos of the 1995 demolition of the old Chicago Stadium. Bill Wirtz, the late owner of the Black Hawks, is featured talking on his cellphone in three of the shots taken at the scene of the end of the original Madhouse on Madison. The grand old dame’s façade is echoed in a few shots that also depict the adjacent United Center. Loads of shots of the wrecking ball doing its worst capture the Stadium coming to the end of its amazing run of Black Hawks glory dating back to its inauguration in 1928. Photographers on hand to record the demolition are pictured along with crowd shots of the media and assorted onlookers who were on hand for the beginning of the end for the great arena, which hosted three Stanley Cup wins and three of Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls’ NBA titles. The photos are ready for printing from 21 individual negative strips housed in a Sun-Times envelope dated “2/3/95” with “Demolition of the Chicago Stadium” in the subject field. Included are 4x6 prints of all of the photos that appear on the negatives.
