The Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens were the big winners in the NHL in 1929-30. The Bruins had what remains the best regular season mark in league history with a 38-5-1 record for an astounding .875 winning percentage, claiming the Prince of Wales Trophy as the American Division champions. Art Ross’ lineup boasted legendary defenseman Eddie Shore, league scoring leader Cooney Weiland and fellow HOFers Tiny Thompson, Dit Clapper and Harry Oliver. The Bruins beat the Montreal Maroons in the playoffs, topping the Canadian Division champs in a 3-1 series win. Boston next faced Howie Morenz’s Montreal Canadiens, who went undefeated in playoff series wins over Chicago and the New York Rangers to advance to the Stanley Cup final. The Habs won the Stanley Cup in an upset with a two-game sweep over the Bruins, who had not lost consecutive games all season. Offered are a pair of 1929-30 Canadiens and Bruins vintage team photo displays. Each team photo displayed on thick cardboard measures about 8” x 10”, with the Habs’ version slightly smaller and in rougher condition. Both of these championship team photos, each with team members names listed at the bottom, were most likely part of a larger store advertising display. The Bruins NHL champions 1929-30 photo is the cleaner of the two with a few surface marks that do not diminish its display and rough edges around the black border. There is a cardboard easel stand attached to the reverse. “Les Canadiens” world’s professional hockey champions 1929-30 team photo has a crack through the middle at the top and a puckering crease through the middle of the image between Hainsworth and Joliat, and another vertical crease on the right side of the image. There is a tear with paper loss at the top and several marks on the bottom right edge, though the image still displays very well. Intriguing vintage team photo displays of two of the greatest editions of the Bruins-Canadiens rivalry.
