Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
A hockey historian's delight is this fantastic batch of press, wire and other photos, with the earliest strong on N.Y. Americans content and highlighted by two shots of Eddie Shore with the Amerks, one a fight scene with Toronto's Bob Davidson. Chuck Conacher, Nels Stewart and Roy Worters are also featured, along with Chuck Rayner with the Brooklyn Americans. Absolutely killer action shots for the most part, with Acme, AP, Wide World and Turofsky photographers among the camera clickers. Mosienko scoring his record third goal in 21 seconds and then holding up the three pucks afterwards, Plante mask-less and then wearing his first mask, the Rocket, Gordie, goaltending greats Brimsek, Broda, Lumley, Sawchuk, Hall and Bower - they'll all have you oohing and ahhhing while contemplating the Original Six era! Two dozen 5" by 7"s and others from the 1970s and miscellaneous minor league/international pics complete, with more details below. A Montreal Maroons posed shot of Ward, Hooley Smith and Northcott, along with a wire photo of Howie Morenz with the Black Hawks but only with the seat of his pants and legs visible, having been “jumped on” by a N.Y. American defender, are also notable among the early photos, along with a nice posed shot of Lynn Patrick. A photo of Orr flying through the air in 1970 carries two captions below; “Bobby Orr’s Goal That Won Stanley Cup – May 10, 1970 – Boston Garden” and “Photo By Ray Lussier – Copyright 1970 – Boston Record American – Sunday Advertiser.” Most photos throughout are in the 6” by 9” to 8” by 10” range, with condition varying. In summary, the lucky high bidder is going to have a blast with these thought-provoking images.
