Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
Battle weary tan leather and cotton belly pad worn by pro goalie Peter Crosby early in his career. Pop Kenesky and his sons were the preferred suppliers of professional goal pads and gear. The chest pad, made by Kenesky, has two hang tags attached from when it was sent back to Keneskys in Hamilton for repair. Also included is an amazing black Kenesky catching glove, with the label missing. Peter tells us that he bought the glove at Pops shop and was told at the time that it was made for Johnny Bower. Earlier pics of Bower show him wearing a slightly similar black Kenesky catcher, but who knows? Still, a marvelous matched set of pro-worn gear. In 1970 he made a brief appearance with the junior St. Catharines Black Hawks and went on to two full seasons in net with the London Knights of the OHA. His pro career took off during the early-1970s when he was drafted in the 5th round by the Boston Bruins and in the 4th by the WHA Los Angeles Sharks. He saw action in the American Hockey League with the Boston Braves and Providence Reds in addition to stints with the Cape Cod Cubs and the Binghampton Dusters of the NAHL.
