Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012

Jean Beliveau became just the fourth player in NHL history to score 500 career goals when he beat Minnesota North Stars rookie goalie Gilles Gilbert with a backhand shot in the 3rd period of a 6-2 Montreal win at the Montreal Forum on February 11, 1971. Set up by his teammate Frank Mahovlich, it was Beliveau's third goal of the game - his 18th and final career hat-trick - and the Forum erupted in a prolonged ovation as the puck entered the net. This was also Big Jean's final NHL season, and he would end it in storybook fashion a few months later by winning his tenth Stanley Cup; his fifth as team captain. Still remembered as perhaps the classiest hockey player of all-time, Beliveau privately sought out young Gilbert after the game to offer words of encouragement and shake his hand. The game's program is complete and in flawless Near Mint condition.
