Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012

Five years after Maurice Richard broke through the 500 goal threshold, Detroit's great star Gordie Howe became just the second man to reach that lofty career total. It happened at Madison Square Garden in New York, during a March 14, 1962 contest between the Wings and the hometown Rangers. Playing short-handed in the 2nd period, Howe took a pass from Alex Delvecchio, slipped by defenseman Doug Harvey, and beat Rangers' goalie Gump Worsley with a backhander. This game was also notable for New York star Andy Bathgate scoring what proved to be the game winning goal on a penalty shot in the 3rd period. Offered here are a program and ticket stub from that memorable evening, along with an original United Press photo of Howe scoring #500. The program is complete and in Ex condition, with the next day's NY Times headlines and photos from the game neatly pasted on the inside front cover. The ticket is in sharp Ex+ condition with a little glue residue on the back, while the press photo is also Ex+.
