Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
The proud Detroit Red Wings franchise entered the NHL in 1926-27 as the "Cougars", before changing their name to the "Falcons" in 1930, and finally to the Red Wings in 1932. In the 86 years since they made their debut, Detroit has won 11 Stanley Cups, the most of any US based team and the third most in League history. Offered here is the scarce yearbook for their inaugural season, containing photos and profiles for each of the players that formed Detroit's first NHL team, including playing manager Art Duncan and future Hall of Famers Frank Frederickson and Frank Foyston. Most of these players were part of the defunct Western Hockey League's Victoria Cougars, winners of the Stanley Cup in 1925 (the last non-NHL team to do so), after the Detroit ownership group bought the bankrupt team (and kept the name). With Olympia Stadium not yet completed, the '26-27 Cougars actually played their "home" games across the border in Windsor, Ontario, and would finish the season in last place with 12 wins in 44 games. Very rare in any condition, this example is in superb Ex+ shape with white pages, and light staining and a pen mark on the cover it's only flaws.
