Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2012
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/30/2012
HOFer Ken Dryden’s idol growing up was an NHL goalie close to home. Dave Dryden, Ken’s older brother, made his NHL debut as an emergency goalie for the New York Rangers in 1961-62 at the age of 20. Back in the bigs with Chicago in the mid-1960s, he moved on to the expansion Buffalo Sabres in 1970-71, where he shared a famous postgame handshake with his prodigious younger brother late in the season at center ice in the old Montreal Forum. Offered is Dave Dryden’s early-1970s Sabres game-used stick, a Louisville Slugger with “Dryden” stamped high on the shaft. Dave’s unusual vintage tape job on the knob features white tape at the bottom with two big wraps of black bulldog tape at the top. The bare blade appears to have never been taped. Dave’s dedicated autograph sits low on the back of the shaft.
